An Afternoon At the Zoo

I tried out a new fishing pond this afternoon. It was a wild place…the Santa Barbara Zoo.I went with my sister, Cheryl, and her five children–my nieces and nephews (l-r: Jay, Allison, Daniel, Jlatu, and Armie). They were a wonderful team. :-)Before today’s episode of The Way of the Master Radio began, we made our way around the zoo and looked at the animals. Along the way, we came across the above sign.If you’re having a hard time reading the fine print, the bottom of the sign reads:”It is generally agreed that Great Apes and Man have common ancestors. But Man and Apes went their separate ways about fifteen million years ago. Therefore, you’re not a Monkey’s Uncle, but only a distant cousin.”Granted, my back and that of the silver back, male gorilla we saw today have some uncanny similarities in appearance; but that is hardly evidence of man’s relationship to apes. In fact, there is no evidence that mankind is related to apes. Oh, atheists and scientists will tell you there is ample evidence. But they will preface the presentation of their theoretical, hypothetical, speculative findings with phrases like: “we believe,” “in our estimation,” “we think,” etc. What proof is there in the fossil record that proves that “Man and Apes went their separate ways about fifteen million years ago”? None. There are no transitional forms in the fossil record to which the atheists and scientists can turn to support their claims. There are no missing links that have been found that the atheistic and scientific communities can present to make their case. No, atheistic evolution is little more than one of the interesting false religions of our day.Someday, if the Lord tarries, and the above photo is discovered in an archaeological dig of the Santa Barbara area, I have no doubt that some scientist will exclaim, “Eureka! I have discovered proof of a transitional forms! Look at how the one in the middle resembles the others!”I know these comments may seem to some a bit sarcastic and harsh; and I have no doubt that at least a couple of atheists who read this blog will fume. Sorry, guys. (Oh, and don’t break a nail typing your comments to this post. The likelihood is that they will not be posted.) But I just came from a zoo where I was bombarded with piece after piece of evidence–evidence for the reality of God Almighty and evidence of His sovereign hand over all creation. Each animal I saw only solidified my faith in God and made the atheistic evolutionary worldview seem all-the-more, well…silly. Our guest for the first hour of the program was Melody. She was at the zoo with her parents and her daughter. Melody considered herself to be a good person and was sure that she would go to heaven someday, on that basis. But it was clear that by the time she finished talking to Todd, and then me, she had been given much to think about.Click here to listen to my follow-up conversation with Melody.Dakota was our guest for the second hour of the program. The above picture of Dakota was taken as I asked him to explain why he believed what he believed. The “why” question is really one of the most powerful questions to ask young people when talking about their atheistic and/or evolutionary beliefs. Sadly, Dakota, like an untold number of young people, believe in myths like the “Big Bang” because that’s what a teacher told them in school, or they read about it in a science book. But they’ve never taken the time to ask themselves and answer the simple yet important question: “Why do I believe this?”The look on Dakota’s face is pretty common when I ask people, young or old, simple questions such as: “Why?” Or, “Where did you get your information?” Or, “Who told you to believe that?”Sadly, Dakota loves his sin–particularly adultery of the heart and fornication. He was as self-righteous as they come. Click here to listen to my follow-up conversation with Dakota. It was another great day of fishing, in a place where I was surrounded by evidence of my Creator’s amazing power. Beautiful.Pray that the Lord will allow the spiritual seeds planted with Melody and Dakota to bear fruit, with both of them one-day coming to genuine repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
